Christmas Break in Guatemala!

Answering the Call

Maryknoll offers you a unique experience to answer the call of Jesus.  Come, join Maryknoll Fathers Bill Mullan, Ted Custer, and Brother Marty Shea and live and work with the Q’eqchi' Indians in the northern jungle region of the Peten in Guatemala during Christmas break 2011.  The mission immersion trip will take place from January 3-10, 2011.

The pastoral mission experience will center on visiting the impoverished Indigenous villages attended by Father Bill Mullan.  Participants will spend a night in the Mayan Indian village of Guadalupe, plant corn along side Mayan Indians, and take part in their worship services.

Those participating in the Christmas break mission program will also visit and hear the story of the people of Santa Rita, a community which Maryknoll Brother Marty Shea attends.  Villagers of Santa Rita hid in the jungle during the Indian genocide during the 1980s.  Finally, participants will accompany Maryknoll Father Ted Custer to visit homes, meet people, and celebrate Mass in the small villages around Flores Peten Lake Itza.  An added attraction to the mission immersion trip will be a guided tour of the famous Mayan ruins of Tikal.

Fall Vocation Retreat

Answer the call!  Discern your vocation!

The Maryknoll Office of Vocation Ministries announces a three-day Vocation Discernment Retreat to be held at the Maryknoll residence in Los Altos, California from the evening of October 29th until lunch on October 31st.  The retreat is called For All the Saints: models for mission, and provides an opportunity for men in discernment for missionary priesthood and Brotherhood with Maryknoll to come together for a time of prayer, reflection, worship, and fellowship.

Last year five men participated in the experience, and spent the better part of three days listening to Maryknoll mission stories and retreat conferences, participating at Mass, praying together the Liturgy of the Hours, reflecting before the Eucharist in adoration, praying the Mission Rosary and being with the Maryknoll missioners who live at the Los Altos residence.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn about life on the missions from Maryknoll priests and Brothers who have spent extensive time overseas.

Fall is a time for new beginnings, a time to check out what life as an overseas missionary has to offer.  Come and join us from October 29-31, 2010 in California.  Let Christ encounter you and lead you to mission!
